Ikea Phenomena

8 September 2008 – 5:43 pm

This is Ikea near Lausanne this morning. 0958 on a Monday morning, and people are queing to get in the store

Why is Ikea so popular? While the days of us driving to the first Ikea outposts in the UK, as far as Warrington and Gateshead may be over, we cannot resist going back! Why? The low prices and Scandinavian design have been emulated and arguably bettered by other retailers.

In Spain, Switzerland and imaginably around the world, Ikea still draws a crowd.

As Mary Portas says, in The Daily Telegraph, Did I buy? Well, yes I did. So something must be working.
