The Santander Bank is historically based on wealth related to shipping (remember the gold from Peru at the time of the Conquistadors ?) and is still heavily involved in the shipping business. Whether the 'ship in the bottle' is appropriate for family office type wealth management, I doubt, but I may presume that the original idea of this publicity was to show how complex and difficult it may be to obtain a safe investment. Only a guess.

@Ranjeet, the Titanic reference refers to a firm who sell watches made from parts of the Titanic!

One German bank is still running an old showreel in its reception of its F1 involvement. Featuring drivers who are no longer with the team. Guess that is an economic approach!

Xav,

are you telling us that swiss private banking should stay away from ship metaphors in case the performance turns out to be titanic?
perhaps stuck-in-a-bottle reflects the safety of your assets during a downturn?

I remember with fondness the UBS Alinghi campaign, circa 2002, which seemed very safe compared to Credit Suisse's use of Formula 1 racing cars during a bear market!
