Busy week in London town

13 August 2008 – 9:15 am

It has been another busy week, and the snaps of marketing campaigns have been gathering virtual dust on the BlackBerry.

It was sad to hear last week of the death of one of the Pininfarina family. The family behind the Italian design studio of the same name, have managed to transcend their timeless creativity from the high end luxury sector to mass market brands. Their clients range from Ferrari to Ford and Peugeot.

British Airways and BAA are currently running an interesting Tube campaign. It uses new technologies to show Terminal 5 is no longer the debacle the press had us believe at its opening. In Piccadilly Underground station, the digital escalator panels show ‘as live’ imagery of passenger traffic flow through the terminal. With the reality backed up by statistics, for example, time to check in. BA and BAA have taken their media misfortune by the horns and cleverly fused advertising, PR and technology. It is rare to see real innovation and technology used in context, this is a good start to the marketing approach of the future.
